The Lanxess Arena holds up to around 20,000 for concerts, making it the biggest indoor arena in Germany, with capacities of roughly 18,500-19,500 for ice hockey and handball. Seating rises steeply from a floor (standing or seated) through numbered lower and upper blocks, sometimes separated into cube sections, and the best concert views come from the lower blocks facing an end stage and the front of the floor. The upper blocks climb high, so the top and behind-stage sections feel distant. It is the home of the Kölner Haie ice hockey team and a major concert stop.
Opened in 1998 as the Kölnarena, the Lanxess Arena is Germany's largest indoor arena and is crowned by a vast 76-metre steel roof arch, nicknamed the Henkelmännchen, that dominates the Cologne-Deutz skyline. Its steep, deep bowl and flexible cube-based seating let it host everything from arena concerts to ice hockey and handball at close quarters.

Concourse stands cover pizza, sausages with chips, burgers and bowls, with Kölsch among the beers poured, and a Franziskaner beer garden operates outside the restaurant in summer.

Transport
The arena is in Cologne-Deutz, a short walk from Köln Messe/Deutz station and served by Stadtbahn tram lines that stop at Bahnhof Deutz/LANXESS arena, connecting quickly to Köln Hauptbahnhof across the Rhine. Paid parking is available on site, but public transport is the simplest choice on event days.
The area
It sits in the Deutz district on the right bank of the Rhine, near the Koelnmesse exhibition grounds and a short tram or walk across the river from Cologne's old town and cathedral. The riverside promenade offers views back to the Dom before a show.
