DSEI (Defence and Security Equipment International) is one of the world's largest defence and security exhibitions, held every two years in London and returning 7-10 September 2027. It gathers armed-forces and government delegations, defence primes, suppliers and security specialists across land, sea, air, space and cyber domains, with conferences and live demonstrations on the water alongside the exhibition. DSEI takes place at ExCeL London, the large exhibition centre on the northern quay of the Royal Victoria Dock in the Docklands. For a business traveller, ExCeL is well served by public transport: the DLR stops at Custom House and Prince Regent within walking distance, and the Elizabeth line calls at Custom House, giving fast links to central London and the airports. Docklands hotels beside ExCeL let you walk to the halls, while City and central stays offer more dining at the cost of a short train ride. As a major biennial event, DSEI drives strong hotel demand across east London.

Popular areas for attendees: Royal Docks/ExCeL · Canary Wharf · Stratford.

  • ExCeL has on-site and adjacent Docklands hotels within walking distance of the halls
  • The DLR and Elizabeth line at Custom House give fast links to the City and airports
  • DSEI is a major biennial defence show, so nearby hotels book up early
  • Central London stays add dining options but mean a train ride each way

Pay Weekly: common questions

Do I pay any interest?

No. There is no interest and no extra charge. Your plan total is exactly the hotel price shown when you book. The only fee we ever charge is a processing fee on cash refunds (see 'What fees apply?').

How many payments can I make?

Depending on how far away your trip is, you can split your booking into between 2 and 16 weekly payments. The exact schedule is shown before you book.

What happens after I pay my deposit?

Your hotel is booked and confirmed immediately. You receive your booking confirmation and your full payment schedule by email, and the remaining payments are charged automatically each week.

How are the weekly payments taken?

Automatically. After your first payment, each weekly payment is charged to your saved card, and we send you a reminder 2 days before every charge. In a few countries where automatic card charges are not allowed, we email you a secure payment link each week instead. You can switch to a different card at any time.

Can I pay early?

Yes. Sign in to your Event Escapes account at any time and pay off your remaining balance in one payment, whenever it suits you. There is never a fee for paying early.

What happens if I miss a payment?

We retry your card automatically and email you a secure payment link so you can pay another way, plus a final notice with one link to clear the remaining balance. If the plan still cannot be completed, we cancel the room before its free-cancellation deadline and everything you have paid goes into your Event Escapes Wallet in full. You never lose the money you have paid. You can turn that credit into a cash refund at any time (the processing fee applies).

Getting there

From Heathrow Airport (LHR)

  • Take the Elizabeth line eastbound; it runs from Heathrow through central London to Custom House for ExCeL
  • This is a direct rail option avoiding line changes for much of the journey
  • Allow around 60-75 minutes end to end depending on connections

From London City Airport (LCY) or other airports

  • London City Airport is minutes away on the DLR, just a few stops to Custom House or Prince Regent
  • From Gatwick or Stansted, take a train to central London then the Elizabeth line or DLR east to ExCeL
  • Taxis and ride-hailing serve ExCeL directly but road traffic can be slow

Getting around during DSEI

DLR and Elizabeth line

  • Custom House (DLR and Elizabeth line) and Prince Regent (DLR) both sit beside ExCeL's two entrances
  • Use a contactless card or phone to tap in and out; no separate ticket needed
  • Trains are frequent but busy at opening and closing peaks

Taxi and ride-hailing

  • Black cabs and Uber serve ExCeL, with clear drop-off points at both ends of the venue
  • Road congestion around the Docklands rises at peak show times
  • For most journeys the DLR or Elizabeth line is faster than a car

Visa & entry

Visa-free entry and ETA

  • Visitors from many countries can enter the UK for short business visits without a visa but now generally need an Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA) obtained online before travel
  • Check whether your nationality needs an ETA or a full visa well ahead

Who needs a Standard Visitor visa

  • Travellers from countries not eligible for visa-free entry need a UK Standard Visitor visa arranged in advance
  • Defence delegates should carry invitations and accreditation and allow extra processing time

Entry rules change; confirm current requirements with the United Kingdom embassy or official immigration site before booking travel.

First time at DSEI?

  • DSEI has strict access control; complete accreditation early and bring photo ID for security screening
  • ExCeL is long with east and west entrances; check which is nearest your halls and station exit
  • Set up contactless travel before arrival so you can tap through the DLR and Elizabeth line
  • Register for your badge in advance to avoid on-site queues on the busy opening day

Insider tips from repeat attendees

  • Docklands hotels beside ExCeL let you walk in and beat the morning transit crush
  • Midweek is best for scheduled meetings; opening day draws the heaviest crowds and security lines
  • For client dinners, Canary Wharf is a short DLR ride and has strong restaurant options
  • Book early; DSEI and other ExCeL events keep east London hotels tight in show week
